CASE Corporation

Human Resources - Case Corporation realized that their human resource application was not year 2000 date compliant. Rather than editing the file format and the Cobol programs involved, Case chose to move to a client/server application that would significantly enhance user capabilities. Orion's Arrow personnel managed the project plan involving 20 developers/analysts and 5 key users. Plan management included tracking staff progress, conducting regular plan reviews, updating an intranet site with weekly project plan changes, and summarizing status into monthly management PowerPoint presentations. In addition project plan management, Orion personnel led the customization programming effort and the quality assurance effort. The customization involved editing the source code provided by the vendor, and adding functionality. The quality assurance involved created test plans, facilitating code walk-throughs, and facilitating user testing. Case Corporation initially chose SmartStream as their 2-tier client/server Human Resource software. After the results of preliminary performance and user testing, Case Corporation determined to move to a worldwide implementation of a 3-tier PeopleSoft solution.

MIS Department - Case Corporation had overburdened its MS Mail servers with 10,000 registered worldwide users. Orion's Arrow personnel managed the technology investigation, user pilot, and implementation planning by created and tracking a detailed project plan to streamline the administration of managing the MS Mail servers. Additionally, the solution provided users improved integration with their MS Office 97 suite, a migration to MS Exchange servers and Outlook 97.

Kimberly Clark

Legal Department - Kimberly-Clark was utilizing a non-date compliant DOS Paradox database to track invoice approval. Orion's Arrow personnel designed a solution that was cost effective, date-compliant, and allowed for faster retrieval of the approved invoices. The architecture of the solution (including GUI screens, database design, and scanning component) was prototyped in MS Access. Once the prototype and the baseline project plan were approved, the final solution consisted of a combination of Watermark, Lotus Notes, Visual Basic, and MS SQL server. An Orion Project Manager led a small team in the design, coding, data conversion, and implementation of the final solution.

Samsung

Testing Facility - Samsung (semiconductor manufacturer) made the decision to upgrade a testing facility coded in Basic running under CPM. The new solution used Quick Basic running on networked PC testers. Orion's Arrow personnel converted the code to the new platform, enhancing functionality and reducing testing/screening times. Then, Orion personnel trained Samsung operators to test, re-screen, and report using the new PC software.

Mobil Oil

Information Technology Department - Orion's Arrow personnel provided Data Base Administration support for a large imaging project utilizing the Opticon and Concordance products. The heavily utilized databases contained legal documents with large scanning and retrieval volumes. Tasks included creation of new databases, creation of new user accounts, and database back-up and restores.
